Norman, OK – The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Wind Advisory and a Freeze Watch spanning most of Oklahoma and northern Texas, signaling a rapid shift from powerful winds to winterlike cold over the next 36 hours.
The Wind Advisory takes effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, with northwest winds of 20–30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected. Forecasters say travel could be difficult for high-profile vehicles, and isolated tree damage or power outages may occur.
By late Wednesday night, temperatures will tumble sharply as a Freeze Watch goes into effect for much of the same area, continuing through Thursday morning. Lows could dip to the upper 20s, threatening crops, sensitive plants, and unprotected pipes across western, central, and southern Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas.
The impacted region includes major cities such as Oklahoma City, Lawton, Enid, Woodward, Altus, Wichita Falls (TX), and surrounding rural counties.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects before winds intensify and take precautions to protect plants and plumbing ahead of the overnight freeze.
