Billings, MT – Dangerous winds are sweeping across Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wyoming today, with gusts reaching up to 75 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages. The National Weather Service has issued multiple High Wind Warnings across the region, urging residents to secure loose objects and avoid unnecessary travel.

According to the NWS, the strongest winds are expected in Montana, where areas near Eastern Glacier National Park, Judith Gap, and the Bears Paw Mountains could see gusts up to 75 mph. High-profile vehicles and lightweight trailers are especially at risk on major highways, including Interstate 90 and US-191.

In North Dakota, the warning extends to areas including Williston, Minot, and Bismarck, with gusts up to 65 mph expected through the evening. Power lines and trees could be damaged, and open highways will experience dangerous crosswinds, making travel challenging.

Minnesota is also under high wind alerts, particularly in the northwest and west-central regions, including Fargo-Moorhead and Grand Forks. Winds up to 60 mph will persist throughout the day, impacting travel along Interstate 94 and US-75.

Meanwhile, Wyoming is seeing some of the most extreme conditions, with gusts up to 75 mph reported near Arlington, Elk Mountain, and Bordeaux along I-80 and I-25. The NWS warns of potential road closures and extreme hazards for truckers and motorists towing trailers.

Residents across the affected states should remain indoors if possible, secure outdoor belongings, and monitor local weather updates for further developments. Officials recommend postponing travel if winds exceed safe driving conditions.
