Caribou, ME – Residents of Hancock, Washington, and Southern Penobscot counties should prepare for dangerous weather conditions as a high wind warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts sustained south winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph during the warning period. These winds are expected to cause widespread power outages due to downed trees and power lines. Travel will be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

According to the NWS, the warning encompasses cities such as Bangor, Bar Harbor, and Eastport, along with inland areas like Brewer and Machias. Officials recommend remaining indoors in lower levels of homes, avoiding windows, and staying vigilant for falling tree limbs and debris.

Residents who must travel are urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly during the peak wind periods late Wednesday evening. Utility companies are preparing for potential outages, and emergency services are on standby for response efforts.
