Pueblo, CO – A high wind warning has been issued for much of Southern Colorado, including Pueblo, Trinidad, and Alamosa, as strong winds are expected to continue until later this evening.

The National Weather Service has warned of southwest winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, particularly affecting the San Luis Valley, Huerfano River Basin, and surrounding areas. The warning will remain in effect until 7 PM MDT in some areas and until 8 PM MDT in others.

According to the National Weather Service, residents should expect damaging winds that could blow down trees and power lines, with power outages possible. Areas of blowing dust could also reduce visibility, making travel hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, particularly on north-south oriented roadways, as crosswinds may create dangerous driving conditions. Residents should stay indoors during the windstorm and avoid windows. Falling debris and tree limbs could pose significant risks.
