Albuquerque, NM – Strong winds are expected to impact northern New Mexico throughout Friday, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 p.m. MST for areas including the East Slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Johnson and Bartlett Mesas, and Raton Pass, as well as the Far Northeast Highlands and Northeast Highlands.

According to the National Weather Service, sustained west winds of 30 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, may cause widespread power outages and downed trees and power lines. Travel conditions will be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles along Interstate 25 from Raton to Las Vegas due to dangerous crosswinds.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for potential power outages. Drivers, especially those operating large vehicles, should use extreme caution.
