Colorado Springs, CO – A high wind warning remains in effect across multiple Colorado counties until noon MDT Wednesday, with damaging winds expected to cause power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, northern and southern El Paso County, including Colorado Springs and Black Forest, will experience north winds of 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph, particularly east of I-25. Similar conditions are forecast for Pueblo, Otero, Bent, Prowers, Baca, Kiowa, and Crowley counties, where winds will range from 35 to 45 mph, with gusts reaching 70 mph.
The strongest winds will persist overnight into Wednesday morning, making travel dangerous, especially for high-profile vehicles. Officials warn that tree limbs and power lines may be downed, leading to widespread power outages.
Residents are advised to remain indoors, particularly in lower levels of buildings, and to stay away from windows. If driving is necessary, extreme caution is recommended due to the risk of debris and low visibility in areas of blowing dust.
The National Weather Service urges residents to stay informed through official updates and to report power outages to local utilities. The high wind warning will expire at noon MDT Wednesday unless conditions warrant an extension.
