Grand Rapids, MI – Michigan beaches along the western shoreline are bracing for dangerous conditions as northwest winds are set to increase tonight. This change in weather is expected to build waves to heights of 3 to 5 feet before a cold front arrives on Friday, causing waves to surge over 6 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the north sides of piers will be particularly susceptible to overtopping and dangerous currents. This warning is crucial for beachgoers and boaters planning to visit the shores from Muskegon to St. Joseph. Dangerous waves and currents are expected from tonight through Saturday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wave alert, advising against swimming in areas marked in red on their forecast map, which includes popular beaches in Holland, Saugatuck, and South Haven.
