Salt Lake City, UT – Residents of Utah should prepare for a significant heatwave set to hit the region next week, with temperatures forecasted to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the US National Weather Service Salt Lake City, the heatwave is expected to bring record-breaking temperatures along the Wasatch Front and in the St. George metro area, potentially reaching highs of 110 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, the rise in temperatures will begin Thursday, with a high-pressure system building along the West Coast, pushing eastward. This system is predicted to produce a warming trend across much of the Western United States, with Utah and southwest Wyoming experiencing the brunt of the heatwave.

Local authorities are also raising concerns about the increased risk of wildfires due to the extreme heat. The Unified Fire Authority has issued warnings, urging residents to avoid dry grass and vegetation, as roughly 70% of Utah’s wildfires are human-caused. Hot vehicles parked on dry grass can ignite fires, with temperatures under vehicles potentially reaching 1,200 degrees.

The daily forecast for Salt Lake City shows a steady increase in temperatures, starting with 86 degrees today, 85 on Thursday, 90 on Friday, and peaking at 93 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. This trend indicates a persistent and dangerous heatwave that could continue into the following week.
