Kalamazoo, MI – Dangerous waves and currents are forecasted for Lake Michigan beaches from Tuesday into Wednesday, prompting high swim risk warnings. South winds are expected to make the south sides of piers particularly hazardous.
According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, these hazardous conditions are expected to affect beaches from Muskegon northwards, with Grand Haven State Park and Pere Marquette Park being notably dangerous. The National Weather Service has highlighted that these areas could see peak wave heights significantly impacting swimmer safety.
In addition to the dangerous water conditions, an excessive heat advisory is in effect for the region. High temperatures are expected to reach the 90s this week, with heat indices soaring above 100 degrees through Friday. Overnight lows in the 70s will offer little respite from the oppressive heat and humidity.
Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution both in the water and on land. The sheriff’s office recommends avoiding swimming in areas with high currents and staying hydrated and cool to mitigate the risks associated with the heat wave.
