Pueblo, Colorado – Heavy snow will continue to pound Colorado’s high country through Wednesday night, with accumulations of up to 3 feet expected above 8,500 feet in the eastern mountains.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snow totals of 12 to 36 inches are possible in parts of the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains, with snowfall continuing into Wednesday evening. Areas above 11,000 feet along the Continental Divide may see even higher amounts, especially on east-facing slopes.

Travel could become hazardous along U.S. 160 over La Veta Pass and Highway 50 near Monarch Pass, where visibility may drop rapidly and roads could become impassable. Colorado Department of Transportation is urging drivers to check cotrip.org for real-time updates and avoid unnecessary mountain travel.

Residents in high-elevation communities like Westcliffe, Rye, and Boncarbo should prepare for potential power outages and limited access due to drifting snow. Make sure to charge devices, stock up on essentials, and stay indoors if possible.

Snow is expected to taper off Wednesday night, but winter weather advisories remain in effect and could be extended if conditions persist. Stay tuned to local alerts for the latest updates.
