GLASGOW, Mont. – A sharp weather turnaround is on the way for northeast Montana, as warm and sunny conditions Saturday will give way to gusty winds, rain, and a sharp fall chill by Sunday. Temperatures along U.S. Highway 2 could drop more than 30 degrees between Saturday’s highs and Sunday’s cooler afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, highs near 80°F Saturday will be replaced by brisk northwest winds up to 30 mph by late evening as a strong cold front sweeps through the region. Rain and isolated thunderstorms may begin by sunset, followed by a steady drop in temperatures into the mid-30s. Motorists should watch for slick roads and reduced visibility along I-90 and rural highways Saturday night through Sunday morning.

By Columbus Day, skies turn mostly sunny but cool, with highs near 46°F and a continued northwest breeze. Residents heading to outdoor holiday events or final fall leaf tours should dress in layers and secure lightweight decorations or pumpkin displays. The early-week chill could signal the season’s first frost in low-lying valleys by midweek.

NWS forecasters urge residents to charge mobile devices, prepare vehicles for the first cold snap, and check heating systems before temperatures drop further. The brief warm spell will return later in the week, though nights remain crisp as fall deepens across the Hi-Line.
