Hernando County, FL – A Brooksville man convicted in a 2023 homicide case has been sentenced to life in prison, closing a two-year investigation that began with the discovery of a body near a business along Cortez Boulevard.

Resca Jr., 55, was sentenced Thursday, December 18, 2025, to life in the Florida Department of Corrections after being adjudicated guilty of second-degree murder. The case dates back to Tuesday, November 21, 2023, when deputies were called just before 3:30 p.m. to a suspicious person report near a dead-end road off Cortez Boulevard on the east side of Hernando County. A caller reported a strong odor and what appeared to be a deceased person near the rear of a business property.
Hernando County Fire Rescue confirmed the individual was deceased and in the early stages of decomposition. Investigators determined the death was the result of homicidal violence.
Major Case detectives and forensic specialists, along with the medical examiner, responded to process the scene. Authorities quickly identified the victim and developed a person of interest. Within 10 hours of the initial call, Resca Jr. was located and questioned.
According to the sheriff’s office, Resca Jr. confessed to the killing and the disposal of the body. He was arrested and booked into the Hernando County Detention Center, where he was held without bond.
