Brooksville, FL – A Hernando County man was arrested this week after deputies say a K9 search during a traffic stop uncovered more than 56 grams of methamphetamine hidden underneath his vehicle.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest happened on Wednesday, January 15, near Commercial Way and Applegate Drive. Deputies say Gary Mansfield, 68, was pulled over in a white SUV for a traffic violation when K9 Jester alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.
Deputy Barlow and K9 Jester conducted a detailed search, leading to the discovery of a magnetic box attached under the driver’s side frame. Inside, deputies found a clear plastic bag containing what was later confirmed to be methamphetamine, weighing 56.29 grams.
Mansfield was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. He was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine (14 grams or more) and is being held without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies credited the successful detection to K9 Jester’s alert and noted the ongoing importance of drug interdiction efforts in the county.
