Brooksville, FL – A proactive patrol in Hernando County led to a narcotics arrest Friday after deputies stopped a vehicle on Cortez Boulevard and discovered a clear bag containing methamphetamine.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Barlow was patrolling near Cortez and Highpoint boulevards on November 22 when he noticed a blue Jeep traveling eastbound that was unable to stay within its lane. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Michael Mesagno, the vehicle’s sole occupant.
Mesagno reportedly gave deputies consent to search his vehicle. During that search, authorities say they found a clear baggie containing a crystallized substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputies said the substance weighed approximately 12.88 grams.
Mesagno was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Sheriff’s officials credited Deputies Barlow and McKenna for their vigilance and proactive patrols aimed at keeping Hernando County roadways safe.
