Virginia & West Virginia – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Virginia and West Virginia, bringing heavy snowfall and dangerous road conditions through Thursday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, VA, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from early Wednesday morning through 1 PM Thursdayfor portions of north-central North Carolina and central and south-central Virginia. Areas including Danville, Lynchburg, Martinsville, and South Boston can expect 3 to 5 inches of snow, creating hazardous travel conditions.
Farther west, areas in Tazewell, Mercer, Summers, and Western Greenbrier counties face even more severe conditions. The NWS warns of 4 to 8 inches of snowand wind gusts up to 40 mph from 1 AM Wednesday through 1 AM Friday, making travel dangerous in parts of southwest Virginia and southeast West Virginia.
Drivers are urged to avoid travel if possible. Road conditions will likely worsen, especially on bridges and overpasses. If travel is necessary, motorists should carry emergency supplies, allow extra time, and drive cautiously.
