Macomb, IL – A broad swath of western Illinois from Galesburg to Macomb is bracing for 8 to 10 inches of snow, with blustery winds and travel disruptions likely from Friday night through early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will develop late Friday and intensify by Saturday afternoon. The most dangerous window stretches from 6 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, when snowfall rates over 1 inch per hour and wind gusts nearing 30 mph could reduce visibility and lead to significant drifting, especially on rural roads.
Snow-covered roads and reduced traction will impact U.S. Route 136, IL-41, and IL-116, with crews working around the clock to maintain passable conditions. The storm’s intensity during evening hours may outpace plow efforts temporarily, creating isolated whiteout situations in open areas.
Residents are advised to stay off roads if possible during peak hours and avoid unnecessary travel until snowfall subsides early Sunday. Conditions should begin to improve by sunrise but caution is urged for those heading out early.
