Lake Charles, LA – Residents of Louisiana and Southeast Texas should prepare for hazardous weather as a winter storm is set to bring significant snowfall and dangerous ice conditions starting late Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective from midnight Tuesday to midnight Wednesday. Snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible along the I-10 corridor.

According to the NWS, the snowfall will be heaviest Tuesday morning and afternoon, creating dangerous travel conditions on roads, bridges, and overpasses. Ice accumulations up to 0.02 inches are also anticipated, further complicating driving conditions. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, increasing the risk of falling tree limbs and isolated power outages.

Temperatures will drop into the mid-20s Monday night and remain below freezing through Tuesday, with highs reaching only the low 30s. Most snow will begin melting Thursday afternoon as temperatures climb, but shaded areas could see lingering snow until Saturday.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible. If driving is necessary, motorists should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and blankets. Updates on road conditions can be obtained by calling 511.

Looking ahead, sunny conditions are expected Wednesday, with temperatures rising to 44°F by Thursday. However, another drop to freezing is forecast Thursday night, so precautions should remain in place for possible icy patches on roads.

Stay tuned to NWS updates for the latest information. A live briefing is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight to address evolving conditions.
