Grand Junction, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midnight Sunday for the Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, where up to 10 inches of snow are expected above 9,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
Affected areas include Telluride, Ouray, Red Mountain Pass, Silverton, Molas Pass, Coal Bank Pass, Rico, Hesperus, and surrounding high-elevation regions. Some localized areas may see higher accumulations as snow continues through the evening hours.
Forecasters warn that travel could be very difficult, particularly along high passes where snow-packed and icy roadways will develop. Visibility may drop quickly during periods of heavier snow.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, especially when crossing mountain routes in the San Juan Range. For up-to-date statewide road conditions, drivers can call 511.
Snow is expected to taper off late tonight, but cold overnight temperatures may lead to lingering icy spots into Monday morning.
