Marquette, MI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for several counties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as heavy snow and gusty winds persist, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), affected areas include Keweenaw, Houghton, Marquette, Baraga, Alger, Luce, and Schoolcraft counties. Snowfall accumulations are expected to reach up to 4 inches in some areas, with winds gusting as high as 50 mph in the Keweenaw Peninsula and surrounding regions. The warnings are staggered, with expiration times ranging from 7 a.m. EST to 7 p.m. EST Thursday.

The NWS warns of slippery roads and widespread blowing snow that could reduce visibility, particularly during the morning and evening commutes. Power outages remain a possibility due to falling tree branches caused by the strong winds.

Motorists are advised to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, in their vehicles in case of extended travel delays. Those traveling through affected areas should allow extra time and exercise caution.

For additional updates and information on road conditions, residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
