Lake County, IL – A line of slow-moving thunderstorms swept across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana on Saturday evening, resulting in significant rainfall and flash flooding. The heaviest hit areas experienced more than 4 inches of rain, with some communities in Lake County recording over 5 inches.

According to the US National Weather Service in Chicago, the storms on June 22 produced torrential downpours that led to widespread flooding. Holiday Hills, located in Lake County, was the hardest hit, receiving 5.03 inches of rain within six hours. This deluge resulted in waterlogged streets and overwhelmed drainage systems, causing inconvenience and hazards for residents.

The Weather Service reported that other areas in Lake and McHenry counties also faced substantial rainfall. Tower Lakes and Mundelein received 4.94 and 4.91 inches of rain, respectively. The severe weather system was characterized by its slow movement, which contributed to the heavy accumulation of rain over a short period.
