Des Moines, IA – Heavy rainfall is expected this evening and into Tuesday morning across portions of western and northern Iowa. Widespread rainfall amounts between 1 and 3 inches are expected, with localized amounts reaching up to 5 inches in areas within the Flood Watch.

According to the US National Weather Service in Des Moines, a Flood Watch is in effect from 10 p.m. tonight through Tuesday morning. Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas are advised to prepare for potential flooding. Ponding and flash flooding are likely, and some river rises are possible, though not at the magnitude seen in northwest Iowa last month.

The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted a high risk of excessive rain, particularly in the northern parts of the state. The primary threats include flash flooding, localized river and stream flooding, and rapid rises in water levels. Residents are urged to stay informed through weather updates, heed any flood warnings, and avoid driving on flooded roads.
