Columbia, South Carolina – Persistent rain could drench much of South Carolina through Tuesday, raising concerns for flooding as back-to-back storms build high daily rainfall totals across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, rain chances increase sharply starting Friday evening, with most cities including Columbia, Aiken, and Orangeburg seeing a 75% to 90% probability of rain through Monday. Some areas could see storms each day, compounding flood risk—especially where drainage is poor or soils are already saturated.

By Saturday and Sunday, rain chances peak in central counties such as Lexington, Richland, and Newberry, where probabilities hold steady near 85%. Commuters and weekend travelers should plan for wet roads and possible delays on I-20 and I-26. Residents are advised to check drainage near homes, avoid driving through high water, and keep weather alerts enabled.

While no official flood warnings are in place yet, the potential for excessive rainfall over several days is prompting early concern. More advisories may follow as conditions evolve.

Rain chances remain high through at least Tuesday morning, with further updates expected from the National Weather Service.
