Tallahassee, Florida – A stretch of wet and stormy weather will grip North Florida and South Georgia through at least Friday, bringing a daily threat of dangerous lightning, localized flash flooding, and strong winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, rain chances exceed 90% in cities like Bainbridge, Perry, DeFuniak Springs, and Tallahassee through midweek. Showers will begin each morning near the coast and expand inland by afternoon and evening, following a tropical moisture plume lingering over the region.
In Tallahassee, daily storm chances peak at 95% through Wednesday, while Panama City, Cross City, and Apalachicola will also see near-daily rainfall. Parts of South Georgia, including Albany and Valdosta, face a 90% chance of rain Monday and Tuesday, with totals that could trigger flash flooding in areas that experience repeated downpours.
Residents are urged to stay alert for lightning, which will accompany nearly every storm. The NWS advises going indoors at the first sound of thunder and avoiding flooded roads: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
The wet pattern may ease slightly by next weekend, but additional advisories could be issued if rainfall intensifies or storm systems organize further.
