Wakefield, VA – A front moving southeast today is expected to bring strong to severe storms and locally heavy rainfall to southern Virginia and northeast North Carolina. Residents should prepare for showers and storms concentrated in these areas this afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service Wakefield VA, a Flood Watch is in effect for southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The highest rainfall totals are anticipated in these regions, leading to significant flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage zones. Localized flash flooding is also possible in parts of central and southern Virginia outside the watch area.
Today’s severe weather threat includes a slight risk for severe thunderstorms in southern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph being the primary concern. The greatest threat is expected from 1 p.m. through 8 p.m. EDT.
Looking ahead, Friday’s forecast shows partly cloudy skies with a high of 87°F and a low of 68°F. Rain chances increase over the weekend, with a 55% chance of rain on Saturday and highs in the low 80s. The pattern of showers and thunderstorms continues into next week, with a 40-45% chance of rain each day and temperatures in the mid-80s.
