Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for rising temperatures and possible storms over the weekend. The US National Weather Service in Central Illinois has issued a forecast indicating that while dry and seasonable weather will prevail for most of the region, isolated storms are expected south of I-70 today.
According to the National Weather Service, a few isolated storms are possible tonight with a 20% chance west of I-55, and temperatures ranging from 65-70 degrees. On Saturday, temperatures will rise to 87-91 degrees with a 20-30% chance of storms. Heat indices are expected to reach between 95-100 degrees.
The heat will intensify on Sunday, with high temperatures between 90-95 degrees and peak heat indices reaching 100-105 degrees. Monday will see even hotter conditions, with temperatures ranging from 91-96 degrees and similar heat indices.
In Champaign, Friday’s forecast predicts a high of 86 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Saturday will be warmer at 88 degrees, with Sunday reaching 92 degrees. The heat will peak on Monday with a high of 94 degrees.
Temperatures will begin to moderate on Tuesday with an expected high of 88 degrees, along with a 55% chance of rain. The rest of the week will see highs around 80 degrees, providing some relief from the intense heat.
