La Crosse, Wis. – Dangerous heat is expected to grip much of Wisconsin and neighboring states from Saturday afternoon through Sunday night, with heat index values climbing as high as 105°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday. The highest impacts will be felt in southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and southwest Wisconsin, especially near and south of Interstate 94.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the 90s, while high humidity will push heat indices into triple digits. Low temperatures will only fall into the mid-70s to around 80°F, offering little relief overnight. The heat may linger into Monday in portions of southwest Wisconsin.

Cities under advisory include La Crosse, Madison, Eau Claire, Tomah, Wisconsin Dells, and Richland Center. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Those without air conditioning should seek out cooling centers or shaded public spaces.

This is the first major heat event of the summer for the region. Officials warn that prolonged exposure could lead to heat-related illness, especially for the elderly, young children, and outdoor workers.

Heat alerts remain active through Sunday evening, with potential updates if conditions worsen.
