Lake Charles, LA – A heat advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. today for the northern half of the region, with heat index values expected to soar between 108°F and 111°F. The sweltering heat comes as high-pressure conditions limit cloud cover and rainfall, intensifying the danger of heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service, areas including Vernon, Rapides, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, and St. Landry Parishes, as well as Tyler, Hardin, Jasper, and Newton Counties in Texas, will be most impacted by extreme temperatures. Residents in these areas are advised to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors, and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.

Looking ahead, southeastern Texas and southwest Louisiana will see a decrease in thunderstorms early in the week. Temperatures will range between the low 90s and mid-90s through Wednesday, but higher rain chances and more intense heat are expected as the week progresses, particularly for coastal areas.

Additionally, flash flooding risks are expected to rise later in the week, with a marginal risk of excessive rainfall in parts of Acadiana on Thursday. This will likely lead to localized flooding, especially in areas near stalled weather systems over the northern Gulf Coast.

Five-Day Forecast for Southeast Texas & Southwest Louisiana:

  • Sunday: 91-96°F, rain chances 10-20% (mainly PM)
  • Monday: 91-97°F, rain chances 10-20% (mainly PM)
  • Tuesday: 92-98°F, rain chances 10-15% (mainly PM)
