Covington, LA – Two drivers died early Tuesday in a tragic crash on LA Hwy 36 near Kipp Road. The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m., claiming the lives of 67-year-old Jeanna Dysart of Abita Springs and 29-year-old Samantha Gaines of Pearl River.
Louisiana State Police Troop L stated that Dysart was driving a 2019 Honda Fit eastbound when it crossed the centerline. It collided head-on with Gaines’ westbound 2020 GMC Acadia. Dysart, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. Gaines, whose seatbelt status remains unclear, also died at the scene.
A child passenger in Gaines’ vehicle, properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries. A passing motorist provided immediate assistance until first responders arrived and transported the child to a nearby hospital.
The investigation continues, with routine toxicology tests underway.
