New York, NY – The National Weather Service in New York City has extended a Gale Warning through 6 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, for New York Harbor and Long Island Sound, where strong northeast winds and rough seas continue to make marine travel hazardous.
According to the weather service, northeast winds of 25 to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots, are producing waves between 4 and 7 feet, especially at the entrance to New York Harbor and across Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay. The system is expected to persist into early Tuesday before slowly easing later in the day.
Forecasters caution that hazardous seas and reduced visibility could capsize or damage vessels, posing serious risks to smaller craft and recreational boaters. Mariners are urged to stay in port, seek safe harbor, and secure their vessels until the warning expires.
