Honolulu, HI – The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Wind Advisory for portions of Maui County and the Big Island, where strong east winds up to 45 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph are expected through 6 a.m. Saturday.
The advisory includes Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui’s leeward and windward areas, South Haleakalā, the Maui Central Valley, and the Big Island summits, including Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
Forecasters warn that winds this strong could tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, and make driving hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles. On the Big Island summits, conditions may become dangerous for both drivers and hikers, with gusts capable of damaging doors and equipment.
Residents and visitors are urged to secure loose outdoor objects, avoid mountain travel, and be prepared for possible power outages overnight.
The strong trade winds are expected to gradually ease by Saturday morning as the pressure gradient weakens across the islands.
