Honolulu, Hawaii – A broad Central Pacific rain pattern is set to intensify by Wednesday morning, bringing repeated rounds of showers and slower travel across the islands through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Hawaii is expected to see above-average precipitation from Wednesday through Saturday, with rainfall totals trending 30 to 60 percent higher than normal. Temperatures will also remain above seasonal averages, keeping conditions warm and humid statewide.

Honolulu, Hilo, and Kahului are expected to see multiple waves of rainfall, increasing the risk of standing water on major routes including H-1 and H-2 on Oahu. Windward areas such as Kaneohe and Hilo could see steadier and occasionally heavier rain, while leeward communities including Kapolei and Lahaina may experience sudden downpours that lead to quick ponding on roadways. Kauai locations like Lihue could also see periods of heavier rain impacting travel.

Drivers should slow down on wet roads, avoid water-covered streets, and allow extra time for travel, especially during heavier showers. Residents are encouraged to clear drainage areas and monitor for rapid water buildup in low-lying areas.

This wet pattern is expected to continue through Saturday night, with additional advisories likely as rainfall timing and intensity become more defined.
