Honolulu, Hawaii – Life-threatening flash flooding is already underway across Oahu tonight, with roads closed and water rapidly rising as additional heavy rain moves back over the island.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until midnight HST for Oahu, with emergency management reporting multiple road closures, especially on the windward side. Flooding is ongoing in streams, roadways, and low-lying areas, and conditions may worsen as new bands of moderate to heavy rain push in from the south.

Communities including Honolulu, Kaneohe, Pearl City, Waipahu, and Ewa Beach are seeing active impacts. Major routes such as H-1, H-2, and Kamehameha Highway may become hazardous with water covering roadways and reduced visibility.

A separate and more dangerous situation is unfolding near Wahiawa, where officials warn of an imminent dam failure along the Kaukonahua Stream. Floodwaters are already moving downstream toward Haleiwa and Waialua, creating a rapidly evolving and potentially catastrophic situation in those areas.

Flooding impacts include submerged roads, overflowing streams, and the potential for landslides in steep terrain. Conditions are especially dangerous at night when rising water is harder to detect.

Residents are urged to avoid all non-essential travel, stay away from streams and flood zones, and never attempt to drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.

Warnings may be extended overnight as heavy rain continues and conditions remain dangerous across Oahu.
