Maui, Hawaii – Flooding threats are expanding across Maui and the Big Island early Tuesday, with saturated जमीन and repeated heavy showers setting the stage for road closures and rising water levels through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon for all of Maui and the Big Island, including Kona, Kohala, Hilo, and the windward and upcountry Maui communities. Lingering tropical moisture combined with an upper-level disturbance is fueling bursts of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms capable of overwhelming drainage systems.

On Maui, areas from Kahului and Wailuku to Hana and Kipahulu could see rapid runoff floods and low-lying areas, especially where earlier rain has already saturated the ground. The Hana Highway and rural routes near Haleakala remain vulnerable to sudden water rises and possible mudslides.

Across the Big Island, urban flooding is possible in Hilo, while western ares like Kona and Kohala may see ponding on major roadways. Steep terrain increases the risk of debris flows in interior and southeastern areas.

Residents should monitor alerts closely and be ready to act if warnings are issued. Avoid driving through flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and charge devices in case of outages.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through the afternoon, with additional warnings likely if rainfall intensifies.
