Hilo, HI – Tropical Storm Hone is expected to bring severe weather to Hawaii, with impacts beginning Saturday. The Big Island, under a tropical storm watch, could see dangerous conditions into early next week.

The National Hurricane Center reports that Hone is currently east-southeast of Hawaii, strengthening as it approaches. Heavy rain and strong winds are forecasted to hit the Big Island first, with the worst conditions expected late Saturday through Sunday.

Monday could bring additional rainfall, especially in windward areas. Rainfall may total up to 20 inches in the higher elevations, leading to flooding. Winds will gust strongly, particularly downslope and through mountain passes.

Swells generated by Hone will create hazardous conditions along all Hawaiian beaches. Life-threatening rip currents are expected starting Saturday night and continuing into Monday.

Residents should secure property and prepare for potential flooding. Local authorities urge vigilance and caution as the storm approaches.

Conditions are likely to improve by Tuesday, but the weekend could bring significant challenges. Stay updated with local advisories for the latest information.
