Hastings, Nebraska – Rain and thunderstorms could begin impacting travel and outdoor plans by early evening, with widespread showers and pockets of heavier rain expected to move across central Nebraska through midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, rain chances will rapidly increase after 5 p.m., with many areas seeing between 0.25 and 0.50 inches of rainfall and localized totals approaching 1 inch. A few storms may become strong to severe, especially during the evening hours.
Cities including Hastings, Grand Island, Kearney, and Holdrege are expected to see steady rainfall, with brief heavier downpours reducing visibility along I-80 and nearby highways. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated storms could produce gusty winds and lightning.
Showers may linger into Thursday morning before gradually tapering, though additional isolated storms remain possible into Friday.
Residents should slow down on wet roads, avoid flooded low spots, and stay alert for changing conditions this evening. Gusty northwest winds up to 40 mph are expected by Saturday, signaling another shift in the weather pattern.
