HASTINGS, Neb. – Storm chances are back in south-central Nebraska, with showers and isolated thunderstorms threatening drivers late Monday night into Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns motorists along Interstate 80 and Highway 281 to watch for slick roads during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, non-severe storms are expected to develop after midnight Monday, with the best chances south of I-80. Winds could gust up to 25 mph at times, and any downpours may briefly reduce visibility. Residents should plan for slower travel early Tuesday.

Hastings and surrounding counties, including Adams, Clay, and Hamilton, will see the highest rain chances through early Tuesday. Most storms will remain weak, but heavy bursts of rain are possible. Outdoor events and early farm work may need adjustments due to wet ground conditions.

By Tuesday afternoon, skies will turn mostly sunny, pushing highs into the low 80s. Calmer weather continues into midweek before another round of storms approaches Friday night. This pattern of quick-moving systems will keep residents watching the skies through the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, check sump pumps, and allow extra travel time if storms develop overnight. Stay weather-aware, as additional advisories could be issued later this week.
