Hastings, NE – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Nebraska, with blizzard conditions and hazardous travel expected from Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon. A Blizzard Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and low visibility.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, northwest winds gusting 55-65 mph will combine with falling snow, creating whiteout conditions and reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile. Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible.
A High Wind Warning is also in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with wind gusts up to 65 mph expected across much of the state. These strong winds will continue into the afternoon, even after snowfall ends, leading to drifting snow and icy road conditions.
Officials warn of hazardous travel conditions, especially during the Wednesday morning commute. Drivers are urged to avoid travel if possible, as road conditions will deteriorate rapidly. Those who must travel should carry an emergency kit and check road conditions before departure.
