Hastings, NE – Warm and windy weather will sweep across much of Nebraska on Saturday, bringing near-record heat and an elevated fire danger before a sharp cool-down early next week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, Saturday’s highs are forecast to reach between 87 and 91 degrees with gusty winds of 40 to 45 miles per hour in the afternoon. Officials warn of elevated fire weather conditions as a result of the hot, dry, and windy setup.

On Sunday, temperatures are expected to ease slightly, with highs ranging from the low 70s in northwestern areas to the mid-80s elsewhere. Winds will shift from the south to the north as a cold front approaches.

By Monday, much cooler air will settle into the region. Highs are projected to range from the upper 50s to mid-60s with calmer winds, bringing a fall-like feel after the weekend heat.

The NWS advises residents to use caution with outdoor burning and to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions.
