Hastings, Nebraska – A mild stretch across central and south-central Nebraska will take a windy turn Wednesday as a cold front sweeps through, setting the stage for cooler conditions by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, highs today will range from the upper 30s to the low 50s, with the warmest temperatures expected southwest of the Tri-Cities. Skies remain mostly sunny, making for favorable conditions through the afternoon.

Wednesday brings similar warmth, with highs again climbing into the mid-40s to low 50s across much of the region, including Hastings, Grand Island, and Kearney. However, conditions change as a cold front moves through during the day. Northwest winds are expected to increase behind the front, with gusts reaching 25 to 40 mph. Those winds could create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles on east-west roads and briefly reduce visibility in open areas.

By Thursday, cooler air settles in across central Nebraska. Highs fall back into the 30s under partly cloudy skies, with lighter winds but a noticeably colder feel compared to midweek.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items ahead of Wednesday’s gusty winds and to plan for changing travel conditions. More updates may follow as the front moves through and cooler weather takes hold later this week.
