Hastings, Neb. – Nebraskans will notice a sharp change in the air by late week as a cold front brings scattered storms and a push of much cooler weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, an isolated storm remains possible tonight in northern Kansas with about a 20% chance. The stronger system arrives Thursday night, when a 15–30% chance of thunderstorms will accompany the frontal passage.

Highs Thursday could still climb into the mid-80s before dropping sharply into the 60s and low 70s on Friday and Saturday. Lows will dip into the 40s both nights, with the chilliest conditions expected Friday night. While widespread rain is unlikely, localized showers and lightning may briefly impact travel on Highway 6, I-80, and other regional routes Thursday evening.

Residents are urged to keep jackets handy for evening activities and be prepared for chilly mornings. Outdoor events Friday night and Saturday may feel much closer to October than early September.

The National Weather Service notes that additional advisories may be issued if storms develop.
