Hastings, NE – A mild, sunny Friday will give way to a windy and much colder weekend across central Nebraska, according to the National Weather Service Hastings.

Temperatures are expected to reach the 60s today under mostly sunny skies, with northwest winds of 10–20 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the brief fall warmth before a strong cold front moves in Saturday.

Forecasters warn of “very windy” conditions Saturday, with gusts potentially reaching 45 mph and an elevated fire danger due to dry air and brisk northwest winds. Temperatures will fall from the upper 50s into the low 50s by evening, followed by a much colder Sunday.

By Sunday, highs will struggle to reach the upper 30s to low 40s, and wind chills may dip into the 20s during the afternoon. A few light rain showers may pass northeast of the Tri-Cities Saturday morning, though little to no accumulation is expected locally.

The National Weather Service advises caution for outdoor activities this weekend, especially for those traveling or burning outdoors.
