Hastings, NE – After a chilly start to the day, Nebraska residents can expect a bright, mild afternoon with highs ranging from the mid-60s to near 70 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings. But the calm fall weather won’t last long, as another frosty morning is on tap for Thursday, followed by increased cloud cover and cooler conditions heading into the weekend.

The National Weather Service says overnight lows will drop to the low and mid-30s across much of central Nebraska, especially in rural and low-lying areas. Patchy frost could return early Thursday before temperatures rebound under mostly sunny skies.

By Friday, a shift toward cloudier and more unsettled weather is expected, particularly near the Kansas border, with highs falling into the mid-50s to around 60 degrees. The cooler trend continues into Saturday, when a few light showers could develop as another weak system passes through.

Forecasters recommend that residents cover outdoor plants or bring sensitive vegetation indoors Wednesday night and Thursday morning to prevent frost damage.
