Hastings, NE Weather Alert: 1.8 Inches Snow Near US-34 Sunday

Hastings, Nebraska – Light snowfall accumulated across central Nebraska, creating minor travel impacts near U.S. Highway 34.

According to a Sunday morning update from the National Weather Service in Hastings, snowfall totals from Saturday, Jan. 31, through early Sunday ranged from around one-half inch to nearly two inches across multiple communities. The report reflects 24-hour snowfall totals as of 6 a.m. CST.

The highest reported accumulation was 1.8 inches in Osceola, located near Interstate 80, followed closely by Ord with 1.6 inches along Nebraska Highway 11. Several other locations recorded near one inch of snowfall, including Arcadia and Greeley with 1.1 inches, North Loup, St. Paul, and Hubbell each at 1.0 inch, and Hebron with 0.8 inches.

In the Tri-Cities area, Grand Island reported 0.7 inches near I-80, while Hastings and Superior each measured 0.5 inches, impacting local roads and early morning travel conditions. Clay Center 6ESE recorded 0.6 inches.

The Weather Service indicated that snowfall was generally light and evenly distributed, consistent with regional radar estimates shown on the accompanying accumulation map.

While totals remained modest, untreated roadways and bridges experienced slick spots, particularly during early morning hours along I-80, US-34, and NE-92, where light snow accumulated on cold pavement.

No additional impacts were noted in the snowfall report, which serves as a summary of observed conditions rather than a forecast.

For commuters, students, and overnight workers across central Nebraska, even minor snowfall amounts required increased caution on secondary roads and rural highways Sunday morning.
