Hastings, Nebraska – Breezy conditions are expected to develop across the Hastings area Saturday, with wind gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph, accompanied by flurries and a possible light dusting of snow in areas north of Highway 92.

According to the National Weather Service office in Hastings, northwest winds will increase through the morning hours and remain strong into the afternoon. Sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph are forecast, with peak gusts near 35 to 40 mph, especially in open and rural areas.

Flurries and pockets of light snow are expected mainly north of Highway 92, though accumulation is expected to remain minimal. Forecasters say any snowfall will likely be brief and light, with little to no impact on roadways. However, reduced visibility is possible at times in open areas where wind may briefly blow falling snow.

Daytime temperatures Saturday are expected to range from 36 to 49 degrees, helping limit snow accumulation. While no winter weather advisories are currently in effect, residents are advised to remain alert for changing conditions, particularly if traveling north of Hastings.

Wind chills may feel cooler during the morning and early afternoon hours, especially during peak wind gusts. Lightweight outdoor items should be secured due to the stronger winds.

Looking ahead, conditions improve quickly. Sunday is forecast to be mostly sunny, with highs between 45 and 55 degrees and lighter southwest winds. A warming trend continues into Monday, with mostly sunny skies and highs climbing into the mid-50s to near 60 degrees, signaling a return to milder conditions early next week.

For commuters, students, and outdoor workers, Saturday’s main impact will be the wind rather than snow. The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updates at weather.gov/hastings for any changes to the forecast.
