Hastings, NE – Residents across central Nebraska should prepare for the possibility of severe weather Tuesday evening, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of thunderstorms that could bring hail, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.

According to the NWS Hastings office, a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in effect for Tuesday, September 16, from late afternoon through midnight. The primary threats include quarter-sized hail and wind gusts over 40 miles per hour, though forecasters noted that some areas may also receive 2 to 3 inches of rain in a short period.

The storm risk zone includes communities such as Hastings, Kearney, McCook, and York, stretching across much of central and southern Nebraska. While forecasters stress that widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated stronger storms could still cause localized damage.

Travelers and residents are advised to monitor weather alerts throughout the day and prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially during the evening commute and late-night hours.

The NWS reminds the public that even marginal storms can down tree branches, damage crops, and cause hazardous driving conditions due to sudden heavy rainfall.
