Hastings, NE – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through noon Monday across south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas, where 2 to 4 inches of snow could make for slick and hazardous morning commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, snow will develop late Sunday night, spreading north before daybreak Monday. The heaviest accumulations are expected across counties near the Nebraska-Kansas border, including Franklin, Smith, and Jewell counties, where localized totals could reach 4 inches. Winds will remain light—under 10 mph—but snow-covered roads are likely by the Monday morning drive, particularly along U.S. Highway 281 and Interstate 80.

Forecasters describe this system as producing light, fluffy snow with high snow-to-liquid ratios near 20:1, meaning accumulation will occur quickly even with minimal moisture. Areas outside the advisory zone, including portions of central Nebraska, could still see a trace to 2 inches of snow.

Following the snow, temperatures will plunge into the single digits by Tuesday morning, with wind chills falling below zero. Cities such as Grand Island, Kearney, and Hastings may see morning lows near 5°F and wind chills between -5°F and -10°F.

The National Weather Service advises drivers to allow extra travel time Monday morning and be prepared for snow-covered and slick conditions.
