Hastings, NE – A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until noon today for much of south-central Nebraska, with dangerously low visibility possible during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, areas of fog developed early Wednesday, with some locations experiencing visibility as low as one-quarter mile or less. While not every community will see dense fog, forecasters caution that some spots may experience worse conditions than others, and visibility can change rapidly.
The fog is expected to lift gradually from west to east, beginning mainly after 10 a.m. However, timing will vary by location, and some areas may see lingering reduced visibility into late morning.
The National Weather Service urges drivers to use caution while traveling this morning. Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and be prepared for sudden drops in visibility, especially on rural highways and open stretches of road.
Forecasters also noted that additional fog development is possible tonight into Christmas Day. While confidence is still evolving, further advisories could be issued if dense fog redevelops overnight or early Thursday.
This advisory may particularly impact early-morning commuters, school transportation, agricultural workers, and holiday travelers heading out before midday.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local conditions and check updated forecasts as visibility trends improve later today and as the holiday period continues.
