Hastings, NE – Central Nebraska is bracing for its coldest night of the season as temperatures plunge into the single digits and teens overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings.
Lows are expected to range from 8°F to 19°F, with wind chill values dipping into the single digits in some locations. The sharp drop follows a weekend cold front that brought gusty winds and much colder air across the state.
Despite the frigid start to the week, a rapid warm-up is on the way. Highs will climb into the 40s and 50s on Monday, followed by 60s and low 70s by Tuesday. Skies will remain mostly sunny, and conditions are expected to stay dry through midweek.
The NWS advises residents to protect exposed pipes, plants, and pets, especially overnight when the coldest temperatures occur. This early-season chill will be short-lived, with a mild and pleasant pattern returning by midweek.
