Hastings, NE – A windy and dry start to the week is raising fire weather concerns across much of central Nebraska today, according to the US National Weather Service Hastings.
Forecasters report northwest winds increasing by late morning, with sustained speeds of 20–30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph expected through the afternoon. Combined with a dry air mass, these conditions will create near-critical fire danger across the region.
While most areas will remain dry, a few sprinkles or very light rain showers could occur north of Interstate 80 this afternoon and early evening. Tuesday will stay mostly sunny but still breezy, with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s and continued low humidity levels.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose objects, as strong gusts may make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles on east-west roads.
The National Weather Service advises monitoring local updates as fire weather alerts or wind advisories may be issued if conditions worsen later today.
