Hastings, NE – Fire weather concerns remain elevated across central and south-central Nebraska through Tuesday, with strong winds and dry air combining to produce near-critical fire weather conditions, according to the US National Weather Service Hastings.
Forecasters warn that any fires that ignite could spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged both today and Tuesday.
Today’s northwest winds will be sustained between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, gradually easing this evening. On Tuesday, winds will remain breezy from the northwest at 15 to 25 mph, gusting up to 35 mph.
Humidity levels will drop to as low as 25–30%, particularly southwest of the Tri-Cities area, further increasing fire danger. The combination of strong winds and low humidity will make conditions favorable for rapid fire growth during both afternoons.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose debris, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to local authorities.
